But when the upgrades are instead things like flat damage/fire rate/health increases, those are empirically better than lower versions of those perks, without question.
A gun you unlock in a loot crate or at level 54 is not necessarily always going to be better than a gun you start with at level 1. Games like Battlefront and Call of Duty offer players different perks and guns but in a way that they’re supposed balance out with one another. The problem, to me, is these upgrades on a fundamental level. Restricting players from equipping top tier upgrades by forcing them to play for 5-10 hours won’t solve this, and if anything, might put newer players at an even more stark disadvantage. If you earned these upgrades through pure XP alone, that still wouldn’t be great, but add in the fact that you can buy your way to many of these upgrades through the loot box system, and it’s even worse.Upgrades like 10% damage increases, 20% fire rate increases, 30% health increases and 200% enemy lock-on increases have the potential to swing things toward players with those kinds of upgrades to an extreme degree.
